Privacy policy
Mutewise is a notification manager. It reads your notifications to apply the rules you write. This page explains what information the app handles, why, and the choices you have. You don't create an account, and we don't sell your personal information.
Notification access
Mutewise needs Android's notification access to work. With it, the app can see the notifications your other apps post: the app that posted it, its title and text, its buttons and the time. Mutewise uses this only on your phone, to:
- check each notification against your rules and carry out the action you chose (for example silence it, dismiss it, snooze it, ring an alarm or remind you);
- keep a notification history so you can see what each rule did and restore anything it dismissed;
- show how many recent notifications a rule would have caught when you test it.
Notification content never leaves your phone. It is not sent to us, to advertisers or to anyone else. Calls, alarms and ongoing notifications are never changed.
Information that stays on your phone
- Your rules and settings (sound effects, which actions are unlocked on which rule).
- Notification history: your most recent 300 notifications with the rule that acted on each, kept in the app's private storage. You can delete entries or clear all history in the app.
- Installed apps list: used only to let you pick which apps a rule watches.
None of this is sent to us. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes it.
Actions that act for you
- Auto-reply sends the reply text you wrote, through the notification's own reply box, only for rules where you turned it on. The reply goes to the person who messaged you, through that messaging app.
- Press button taps the notification button you named (for example "Mark as read") only for rules where you set it up.
- Hide content, Alarm, Remind me, Undo and Restore post Mutewise's own notifications on your phone, which is why the app asks to send notifications.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
Mutewise is free and shows an optional rewarded video (to turn on a power action for a rule) and an occasional full-screen ad after you save a rule, through Google AdMob. There are no banner ads. To show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may collect:
- your device's advertising ID and other device identifiers,
- approximate location derived from your IP address,
- information about how you interact with ads, and basic device and app information.
Your notifications and rules are never shared with Google AdMob. If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, the app asks for your consent before personalised ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time in Mutewise under Settings > Ad privacy choices. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's Android settings.
Google's use of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
No analytics
The Mutewise app does not include any analytics or tracking SDK besides the advertising described above. This website does not use analytics or cookies.
The teaser video on the home page is hosted on YouTube. It loads only when you press play, and YouTube may then set its own cookies under Google's privacy policy.
Children
Mutewise is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that concerns you, contact us below.
Data security and retention
Data sent to Google's advertising services travels over encrypted connections and is kept according to Google's policies. Data on your device stays until you delete it or uninstall the app. History keeps only the latest 300 notifications; older ones are deleted automatically.
Your choices
- Turn off notification access at any time in Android settings; Mutewise then stops reading notifications.
- Delete history entries, or clear all history, in the app.
- Change ad consent in Settings > Ad privacy choices (where offered).
- Reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings.
- Delete all local data by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its effective date.
